Music
I grew up in Allendale, New Jersey and graduated from Northern Highlands Regional High School in 1978. In high school I was active in the music department, participating in the concert band, marching band, jazz band, and wind ensemble. I sang and accompanied the concert choir, madrigal choir, and musical plays including; Oliver, George M, The Stingiest Man in Town, Amahl and The Night Visitors, Fiddler on The Roof, and Hello Dolly!
I attended Houghton College School of Music in Houghton, New York and graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree with a combined vocal and instrumental Education emphasis in December 1982.
I completed a Master of Education degree from Baker University in 2010.
I began teaching in Easton at Pleasant Ridge High School and Middle School in August 2005. I teach high school band, music appreciation, and choir. I teach middle school band and choir.
I began working at the First Baptist Church in Leavenworth as the organist in August 2005. I also serve as the adult choir director.
I began my teaching career as a first grade teacher at Montrose Christian School in Rockville, Maryland in 1983. In 1985 I moved to Chandler, Arizona where I taught at Del Rey Christian Academy in a combined classroom of 7th, 8th and 9th, grades. In 1987 I began teaching high school and middle school band at Steilacoom Historical School District #1 in Steilacoom, Washington adding choir to my schedule the following year and teaching there until 1991. I taught vocal music choir at West Middle School and assisted with the band at Leavenworth High School from 1995-1997. I taught vocal music at the Challenger school in the North Hanover School District in New Jersey from 1998 - 2000.
I have worked as a camp counselor, horsemanship specialist, riding instructor, and music instructor at Camp Cherith and Camp Cedarbrook in the Adirondacks at Corinth, New York for many summers of my adult life beginning in the summer of 1979.
I married Steven Miller on June 11, 1983. Steve served as a pilot in the US Air Force until he retired from active duty in 2005. We have three children, Kyle, Michael, and Julie. Kyle graduated from Lansing High School in 2007 and the US Air Force Academy in 2011. He is married to Grace and is an F16 pilot in the USAF. Michael graduated from Lansing High School in 2012 and is a graduate student and football coach at Washburn University. Julie is a 12th grade student at Pleasant Ridge High School where she is a member of the band and participates in sports.
We have two pets, a golden retriever named Hunter and a cat named Lolli, and a horse named Cactus.
In addition to teaching music at Pleasant Ridge, I am the organist and adult choir director at First Baptist Church in Leavenworth. I am a horsemanship instructor and trainer and often spend my summer vacation at my family home on the Jersey Shore or teaching horsemanship at a summer camp in upstate New York.
