Notes From Mr. Flynn

Parents and Students,

I would like to thank all those who contributed to staff appreciation week. We have a great team here at PRHS and I am thankful for the work they do with students daily. I appreciate all students, parents, and staff that brought in food, treats, drinks, or sent a thank you.

As we wind down, we have a couple of important events coming up to include graduations, post season sports, and awards. Some of the information below is repeated, but please take the time to read through the newsletter. Especially for seniors and senior parents.

Senior Update

Here is what is left for seniors

Senior Sunset

Seniors have planned a senior sunset for Monday night. The weather doesn't look great. If it does rain, I will be sure to open the gym for our seniors.

Senior Finals

-Senior Semester Finals are scheduled for May 13th and 14th as follows:

-May 13th: Hours 1,3,5,7

-May 14th: Hours 2,4,6 (Senior Picnic will be during 5th hour).

Senior Cap and Gown Walk

-All seniors will be participating in the traditional graduation “Cap and Gown” walk at PRMS

and PRES. Seniors should bring their cap and gown with them to graduation practice on THURSDAY, MAY 16th (This is a change from our calendar). Seniors need to be the gym at PRHS no later than 8:30. Once we gather, we will walk down PRMS at 8:30am and then head over to PRES. (Buses will be available to transport seniors over to the elementary school and then back to the middle school.)

This year we will be starting a new tradition with our senior walk. Our senior class will be paired up with a Kindergarten walk with. It will be both a "first Ram walk" and "last Ram walk". Parents are welcome to come to the elementary school to take pictures if you would like. I hope to have our students over at PRES at/around 8:45.

Graduation Practice

-All seniors participating in the PRHS Commencement Ceremony on May 19th must

attend the Graduation Rehearsal on Thursday, May 16th beginning directly after our Senior Cap and Gown Walk. PTO is providing seniors with breakfast and a gift before we complete practice. We will practice both outside and inside.

Senior Obligations

-All senior students must turn in their computers, security fobs, and

all other items by the end of the day on May 15th.

*Note: Seniors wishing to purchase their school computer may do so by paying $1 to

Mrs. Day in the office and then seeing Mrs. Clay to finalize the sale.

*Lunch money will be transferred to siblings accounts or can be refunded by the BOE

office.

**All items must be turned in and obligations paid in order to participate in the

graduation ceremony on May 21st.

Graduation: 2:00pm on Sunday, May 19th, 2023

-The Graduation Ceremony will take place in the stadium provided the weather

cooperates. If it appears that bad weather is imminent, at no later than 11:00 am on that day, we will

send out an email to all graduating seniors and their parents letting them know the ceremony will be moved indoors to the PRHS gym. Seating will be on a first come, first served basis.

-All seniors participating in the PRHS graduation ceremony should plan to arrive at the

school by 1:15pm on May 19th and report to the gym.

Student Handbook

Dress Code

Dress code policy from student handbook: Neatness and decency are emphasized as guidelines for the dress code. Students must dress in a manner that is not obscene: offensive: or substantially or materially disruptive to the learning environment. Apparel that is sexually suggestive; promotes violence, illegal activities, drugs, alcohol, and/or tobacco; or is determined to be gang related is prohibited. The principal shall make the final determination regarding the appropriateness of a student’s appearance. Students who are inappropriately dressed will be required to cover up or change their clothing. The following are not permitted to be worn or used by students in the building: Hats, caps, sunglasses, chains, laser pointers, and cigarette lighters. Do not bring personal care items to class, such as hair brushes, makeup, etc. Do not bring any items or materials that can hurt or disturb staff or students. Any student involved in extra or co-curricular activity in which the student represents the district, shall dress in accordance with the sponsor’s requirements, subject to approval by the administration.

Vaping information and policy

Vaping:

  1. What is vaping? - Vaping is the act of inhaling a vapor that is produced by an electronic vaporizer or e-cigarette. The vapor comes from heating flavored liquids that may contain nicotine, marijuana/THC, cocaine, or other drugs. These flavored liquids release a very strong sweet smell into the air when vaporized.

  2. What do vaping devices look like? -Vaporizers come in various shapes and sizes. The most common form we’ve seen is a Juul, which looks like an electronic flash drive that plugs into a USB port for charging. These devices can be quite small and can easily be concealed with normal backpack/school-related items.

  3. Where are kids getting vaping devices? -Although it is illegal for stores to sell vaping items to anyone under 21, our students are getting their hands on them. Online purchasing without age verification, getting a device from a family member or friend, or buying them from random people all seem to be sources of distribution.

Consequences:

  • First Offense: Up to a one-day suspension.

  • Second Offense: Up to a three-day suspension and required conference with administrator.

  • Third Offense: Up to a five-day suspension and required conference with administrator.

  • Fourth Offense: Up to a long-term suspension, possible expulsion.

Students who are tardy to class and / or the start of school after their 4th tardy may be subject to disciplinary consequences.

Students who arrive more than ten minutes after a class begins will be considered absent for that class.
